The movie sucks compared to the Book. So much is left out. Sadly Papillon is not a true story. It is a work of fiction. The book idea was stolen from another book by Rene Belbenoit called Hell On Trial. If you read Hell On Trial, it is virtually the same story but written about 30 years earlier. Belbenoit was not as good a story teller as Charriere however.

Shot in PSpain and in Hawaii,this is one of my personal top 10,saw it in 1973 when i was a young lad,we could get in back then,always loved Steve and Dustin together.... The shots at the end when the credits roll are the actual horrific shots of the real Devil's Island....horrific to this very day....gripping.
