It isn't actually ... ( 2 weeks ago by adams7260)
It isn't actually that I don't care, its just I feel they are misinformed. Sure, I would like everyone in the world to get along, but some country's opinions hold more weight thank others. That is just a fact. I am more concerned of the British dislking us for instance. Also, where were the Irish when Hussein was killing 300,000 Kurds?
Another point why is it that every other country is allowed to critisize and critique America as if they have no faults?
The Irish ... ( 2 weeks ago by jratt2)
The Irish government sent aid to the Kurds in 1991. The Irish are one of the largest donors of aid in the world per capita. Whats more, it is donated without political or economic strings attached.
What have the Irish been misinformed about? Every country has faults like you said. Every country is allowed to be critical of other countries, thats a by-product of free speech. Maybe you are just not used to hearing it.
yeah, well that aid ... ( 2 weeks ago by adams7260)
yeah, well that aid really helped stop the mass murder. The United States leads the world in donations and aid to other countries but you never hear about that. Bush gives millions to help combat AIDS in Africa, yet many people always focus on the negative.
Not all of our aid comes with political or economic strings attached. We constantly are shelling out money to nations that don't even like us that will do nothing to promote our self interest.

I don't have a problem with people critisizing America. I hear it every day of my life. People constantly are saying things I find distasteful, but it is part of free speech, so in some regards, I am thankful to live in a nation where disonance is never stifled.

"yeah, well that aid really helped stop the mass murder."
What a strange response. You don't think sending aid helped to "stop mass murder"? I'm sure the Kurds would not have survived if Ireland and other nations had not helped. You are innocent in the extreme if you think the US has actually "stopped" mass murder. The US is not the only country sending
aid and I believe the US has a huge PR problem outside its borders with all the good work you mention being overshadowed by Iraq.

LOL, "A few soldiers didnt represent entire america..." Whats about Korea, Vietnam, ... The US is officialy a friendly country, but behind the certains its rotten. In WWII, the few soldiers didnt represent germany, thats it?

really disturbing ... ( 1 week ago by 5ken7)
really disturbing to hear war presented as some "humanitarian" mission. in politics in the real world, no state goes to war to defend the oppressed of another state; they wage war to defend their shores & to protect "interests". bush is obviously a "spokesman" working for certain corporate interests who've benefitted greatly from iraq, afghanistan, etc. WE NEED A CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION OF THIS PRESIDENT.

Bottom line - America attacked Iraq because they supposedly had nukes, but you have the most in the world.

I dont like or dislike bush i just try to see things as they. are idk and i dont think that we went to war because we were worried about the innicent Iraqis no one gives 2 fuks about them. the "reason" why we went to war was to disarm the threat. that is another bs statement but i do think we need a place to be stationed when the people in the middle east wanna fuck with us soooo agree or disagree theres alot that we prob dnt know so with that im done
Helping is not ... ( 1 week ago by adams7260)
Helping is not stopping. The point is 300,000 Kurds and countless others were murdered by Saddam Hussein's regime. Giving aid is a passive solution that obviously accomplished very litte. I don't believe the US has stopped mass murder, but we have gotten rid of many mass murderers.
Part of the reason the US has such a bad PR problem is the inability of the Bush administration to communicate their ideas, but also the media in other countries often does not give the US a fair shake.
Yes the US has ... ( 1 week ago by jratt2)
Yes the US has gotten rid of mass murderers, but it has also propped up\supported mass murderers when it suits US interests - Saddam for example. Don't blame the media in other countries adams7260 - in my country the US held the moral hight ground after 9/11 and it was not Afghanistan but Iraq which turned people against this administration. Based on previous knowledge of US foreign policy, any intelligent person can see Iraq is an exercise in oil-based self interest not stopping mass murder.
Not everything is ... ( 1 week ago by adams7260)
Not everything is black and white. Sometimes the US has to choose the lesser of two evils because we have no choice. What is wrong with a country doing things that are in their best interest? Does Ireland not do that?
Of course the rest ... ( 1 week ago by adams7260)
Of course the rest of the world was behind us after 9/11, how could they not be? There isn't really too much the media can do to turn that against the US. Well if Iraq was for oil and monetary gain, why does it cost four bucks a gallon here now? Iraq is running a surplus while we are running a deficit. We are really receiving nothing from this war. It is time we actually start taking some of their profits from oil.
Exactly, US foreign ... ( 1 week ago by jratt2)
Exactly, US foreign policy is in its own interest: why did the kurds take to the hills in 1991? Because they feared they would be gassed like they had been in 1988? Who gave Iraq the gas? The US. US Foreign Policy has nothing to do with freedom, democracy or "stopping mass murder". Its about doing things in its best interest. If everyone else is doing that too, why not call it what it is?
Oil is only 4 bucks ... ( 1 week ago by jratt2)
Oil is only 4 bucks a gallon over there? lucky you! lol. Iraq is about geopolitics adams, its about securing a supply of oil now that the US can no longer trust the Saudi's. Thats what your country is getting out of this - not cheap oil.
"Of course the rest of the world was behind us after 9/11, how could they not be? There isn't really too much the media can do to turn that against the US". Is there a conspiracy in the media against the US?

Silly the goal was never to get you cheap oil, it was to actually keep the oil in the ground so the price could be controlled & inflated by US interest.
