how much porcupine tree have you heard? They possess all of those qualities in spades. None of their solos have too many notes at all. I love Radiohead also.

This song encapsulates everything I love about music. I am fucking soooo buzzed after watching this. I have Seconds Out which features Chester Thompson on this song - I think that one is the definitive version.
Rutherford and Banks have always said they were not happy with the way the Gabriel/ Foxtrot version came out. But hell, they were still kids. The song finally came together when Collins sang it....and after hundreds of performances. Moog Taurus pedals rule!

Hmm, gotta disagree with this one. Don't get me wrong, I think Phil's great, but Peter Gabriel's performance--both on "Supper's Ready" and live -- of which there are plenty clips on utube to see, were on a completely different intensity level.

Alrigh, alright, as for who sings it better, the two singers themselves once talked about it. I think I read it in "The Book of Genesis" by some journalist. Some time after Gabriel left the group, he approached Collins and said "You sing Supper's Ready and Carpet Crawlers better than I do, but you'll never sing them the way I do." Collins agreed. So, whatever it means and for whatever it's worth, there you have it.

Sorry, Bill didn't steal the show. I saw it, you can hear it here. Both darn good drummers. Phil was better for this material. Bill was better for YES, though wouldn't it be interesting to hear what each would have done in the other band? But then, we'd lose the originals to compare to. Chicken-egg hypothetical. My biggest what-if was Michael Giles instead of White to replace Bruford in YES.

I saw TMB in Duisburg. This is in my opinion the high end version. When they visit your town. Celebrate them. 6 high class musicians with a great genesis. Bach also did play better after a....few years.
