different styles of fighting have their own ways of defending and attacking. In MT you lean in to the attack in order to gain an advantage. Im taking TKD and as im told we learn to read the attack befor they strike. As the attacker reaches half way, attack! also explosive speed is a big part.

I don't like the slide and I don't like pushing off the back leg either. Sliding slows you down and pushing off leaves you off balance. If your weight is 50/50 on each leg, raise the front leg- you move forward. The back leg naturally follows- like controlled falling. Also, up on the balls of your feet, heels about a 1/4 inch off the ground. You float nice and easy. Screw pushing off the back leg. I'd box circles around anyone pushing off the back leg... and I'm 64 years old!
The footwork is ... ( 6 months ago by brodan48)
The footwork is fine, but it has to be very quick. What some instructors don't tell the kids though is that if one closes the gap by obviously shuffling forward before a kick, he is in effect doing the closing in for his opponent who will just time it with a kick of his own. Wide stances like this require a 1-2 count to make contact. If your 1 is a step, the opponents could be a kick.
The slide is ... ( 6 months ago by DanXZ)
The slide is awkward at first but worth drilling. This guy looks flat footed but the slide is as quick as stepping if ur on the balls of the feet like u said - and better for lunging. With ur foot always in contact with the ground you can punch instantly if you have to react mid-step. If your just stepping then you have to get your feet back on the ground before you can throw a decent punch. Makes you too easy to predict and time.

when your throwing a hook pivot your back foot the heel part to your oponent or the heavy bag or what ever your hitting putting just your arms in it puts in some power but pivoting and using your hips is like concrete slamming in to his face lol

sry but you'r wrong when left foot steps then right foot follows with STEP not slide and ofcourse left keeps the distance with the right one.remember the basic boxing footwork exercises.they tie a rope to the leg wrists then u can easyly keep the distance while steppin
