I remember seeing Klaus Nomi for the first time on the BBC's The Old Grey Whistle Test in 1979 and I thought how peculiarly odd he was.....with that female soprano voice, his odd appearance and a pop sensibility to-boot, he was bizarre and brilliant. Klaus had made an impact on new-wave music in
the late 70's and was working to break into the pop mainstream just before he died. His first love however, was Opera. In this video, Klaus sings Purcell's strange aria The Cold Song from the English 17th century baroque opera King Arthur The opera's composer Purcell died in 1695 from incurable T.

| Don't say, those who cant appreciate his genius are medicore or narrowminded. I stepped on Nomi by pure chance. I have watched a few videos and listened to his songs. You say he is innovative and a visonary. How , I ask you? As for me I'm hooked on Manson becouse of the core idea of pushing freedom of speech to it's limits, asking society how far can I go before I'm said: "Mr. Brian H. Warner we place you in a mental institution." |

| I think it's a shallow approach. Manson often crtisizes social status. Like in the song "The Love song" stating "Do you love your guns? Yeah God? Yeah And Government?" it refers to the american gun madness. for instance. Or his devlopment through his career in the three album epopee starting with Antichrist superstar to holy wood. Personally my favorite song of MM is "beautiful people" which is a direct statement about how the media and society and the 24/7 consumption party has effected us. |

| as in makeing a large majority of people scared and feeling inferior to the rich and beutiful. Not fitting with the standard of beauty. but everybody wants to be like angelina jolie or H. Hefner. Having sex with girls party like an animal, drive Ferrari 599 GTB's and Bentley's, be beautiful and rich. But the sad truth is that we can't all be that. | It's a matter of perspective. how deep into ones creation will you go. how much time you want to invest in researching and finding the links and paralels to the real life in Mansons lyrics. I'm not trying to say Nomi is bad or something inferior, that would make me a moron :P.These 2 can't be compared. Different time,different understanings, different music genre. But you missed the inital question.What is the aspect that is the most appealing in his creation,I want to undersatnd his phenomena? |

| I've only just discovered Klaus Nomi and he is bizarrely beautiful. Not sexy or erotic, but just beautiful, like a baroque painting. Beautiful voice and an oddly appealing sense of aesthetics I can see why some viewers make the comparison to Marilyn Manson (there's also the Bowie connection), but I don't believe that any real comparison can be made as they are both vastly different bizarre characters in the same stage show of life. I quite like Klaus Nomi. |

| Sorry, but I have to disagree. Oh, Marilyn Manson is definately in it for money, no doubt there. But I also think that Manson very much believes in what he is doing. He doesn't set out to deliberately shock people, he just plays on the things that other people find shocking that he doesn't. He also has a wonderful sense of aesthetics. Also I think he does know where to draw the line, he may be playing on people's paranoia and fear, but he's not suicidal. To follow your advice would be stupid. |

Manson is permitted to shock because he exists within a western tolerant society.
