there is no Partially connected to the Body of Christ. Either you are totally connected or not connected at all. The only way you can be connected to the body of christ is that you trust Jesus Christ as your savior. I have trusted in Jesus Christ, not a particular church, so yes I am connect to Jesus Christ.

sorry derek...all that will earn you is recognition as a believer...if you do not obey His Commands , you are not in the Body of Christ...in order to be in Communion with the Church that HE left us, then it is necessary to believe all that His Church teaches and believes... while you might accept some of the teachings of His Church , you are like the disciples in John 6:66 (gotta love the irony) who leave Him because some teachings are too hard... you remain in my prayers for conversion

sure glad to hear that derek cuz the bible tells us that it is His Church that is the PILLAR and FOUNDATION of TRUTH... however there is nothing in the bible saying that one should use ONLY the bible for truth ... sola scriptura is unsupported by the bible itself

He left us a Church ... one can conclude it would be THAT CHURCH that He wanted his brothers and sisters to be in communion with ...not one of the over 37k ecclesial communities who have separated themselves from the ONE TRUTH that exists in its FULLNESS in His Church...He promised that the Holy Spirit would guide Her into ALL TRUTH and that the gates of hell would not prevail against Her... why would anyone want to be ANYWHERE but His CHurch ?

the holy sprit is not in the catholic church when it decided when they decided to do there own will and not the Lord the first commandment tells you not to make any graven imaige of nothing in heaven or on earth or sea beneath that should tell you something.

libbie7777, thanks for your opinion. However you are completely wrong about us. The truth is that you disrespect the bible by your words. The bible clearly says only God knows those who belong to Him. Do you assume to know more than God? Also, your interpretation of the commandment needs to be completed with the fact that in the bible God ask for "images" to be made, so you see, "Any image" is wrong to say. Do you need those bible verses from which I am talking about?

thank you for agreeing that is indeed the 1st commandment and not accusing us of removing the 2nd commandment as most non-Catholics do our Lord sent the Holy Spirit to lead His Church into ALL TRUTH libbie... we are that CHurch .... the Holy Spirit is NOT about chaos...which is what you have with over 37k ecclesial communities that have splintered from His Church ...and yet they ALL think they have the "TRUTH"...there is only ONE TRUTH libbie...and it exists in its FULLNESS ONLY in His Church

DerektheDuctTape, I would like to add that we believe the members of the church are the Body of Christ. By not trusting in the Body of Jesus, is the same as not believing. You speak of trust, yet you refuse to trust His Church? "Thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church" Peter is not so much a name, but what Jesus called him to be.

What makes you so sure that the roman catholic church is the only body of Christ. Maybe when it first began, I don't know about that, but today, the roman catholic church is too legalistic to be a Church of Christ, and if it is, then why is it so legalistic, where is the freedom.

Why do Catholics make images and bow down to them, even though that's forbidden in the 10 commandments?
Plus, Mary doesn't pray for us, there is only one in heaven who makes intercession for us, and that is Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Why do Catholics pray to various saints when Jesus taught us to pray to the Father?

FToniS, Jesus taught us to ask anyone to pray for us, especially those who have gone before us and in particular led holy lives. Catholics believe in miracles that have happened since the Bible times and we have been told that we can ask for intercession by his holy family. The images we have is like any image for ex. of a loved one. You look at them in remembrance.

I know it's probably hard to understand our faith since interpretation is different. We interpret most of the texts as symbolic since many were written in parables or sometimes for that particular event. Protestants interpret literally most of the time. We cannot WORSHIP a false God like they had been doing prevalently in the Bible times. They were making idols (Greek: an image of a God) of sea creatures and flying creatures, etc... Art would be completely annihilated otherwise.

FToniS, to answer your question, we venerate Mary. We ask Mary to pray for us. We do not adore Mary, that is reserved for God alone. It is 100% in the bible.

Sorry, one more thing but I'm on a roll haha, Mary is like an ambassador to us. Jesus is God, and that is reserved for those privileged enough to see him once entered into heaven (especially if they've been in purgatory for some time which is like a cleansing place to repair past sins before seeing God). We believe Jesus has appeared before but it's extremely rare.
