I'm wondering the same thing...I live in the midwestern U.S where we get rain, sleet, snow, and ice storms throughout the year and in the summer when its not storming its hot and humid. what about getting a "permit" to build one? Are they even allowed?

I've read one part of the process is to set fire to buidings. This way, buildings become a kiln. You must keep the fire for three or four days so that adobe turns to fired brick first and rock then. Finally you need to plaster. By using these techniques, buildings are waterproofed.

Kiln-like fires would be cost prohibitive and unnecessarily polluting. Coatings for waterproofing are required for most contemporary structures anyway. Remove exterior paint from stucco, the stucco absorbs and rots away. Leave paint off of wood siding, and the wood rots. Don't put tar paper and shingles on your roof, and your plywood rots. No different than this. Put a protective coating, and the structural integrity underneath will be able to do its job well.

cdltpx, I understand that the Monolithic Domes may be structurally stronger, but after researching them and looking at the "appearance" of them...these Eco-Domes are far more beautiful-looking and they have a sense of relief to your spirit when you look at them. The ones you rtalk about, franky are kinda ugly and boring with NO creative touch to them at all, its like building the SUBURBS all over again only more environmental. Sorry, I'd rather build my home CUSTOM. :)
