People here just seem to get their knickers in a twist by generalising ('the' Germans, 'the' British...), by ignoring the factor time (Germany prior 1871 differs from the 'Kaiserreich' from the 'Weimarer Republik' etc.... Same logic applies for other countries also) and by misunderstanding that 'culture' is a fuzzy word that needs to be interpreted from a broad perspective, not just from 1 angle. |

| Hi, I just started looking into this subject of flat/decreasing(?) birthrate in Germany. I do not think that it has got anything to do with Germans not having sufficient sex:) From my point of view, it seems to be a combination of several coincidal factors (in no particular order): 1. the state not sufficiently supporting parents (tax, kindergarden etc), 2. employers still quietly discriminating against mothers/fathers, 3. a cultural mindset that still favours the traditional gender roles. |

| The birth rate is decreasing in all of western Europe, not just Germany. I just got back from Kaliningrad (formerly Konigsberg Germany). There, women walk in high heels, flattering outfits and they have flattering figures. If the west (including the US) would put less emphasis on de-feminizing women, maybe the birthrate would go up? I saw babies every day and a wedding celebration almost every day in Kaliningrad. |
