Yes, you are correct, but it should not be blind and unearned respect for ones people. It should be earned by what your people actually accomplished over the years.
Lets say your ancestors were rapist and cannabols. Are you entitled to respect them just because they came before you, and you are a part of their 'people'?

there is a difference of being proud of your heritage and being arrogant when you yourself have not earned it (no one likes a trust fund baby) your ancestors may have done some great things or even overcome great disadvantages..... ....what have you done with your life is more the point! another question: Can I be proud for another race and learn from them and claim them for my own esteem?

I always feel sick whenever I see people proud of what they are because they never stop to think that they have been programmed since birth to like what they are. They're not aware if they like or dislike what they are. It came automatically for them. I on the other hand managed to break free once I reached the age of reason. Just took one good look around me and I felt like a biter. That I'm only joining the bandwagon for their reasons, not mine.
