Lion cub makes unlikely friend in cat

Uploaded by: itnsource
Video Description:
3-month-old lion cub Safina is enjoying some domestic comforts before she settles into her permanent residence at Linton Zoo. Zoo co-owner Kim Simmons is raising Safina at home because the cub's parents didn't have the experience to care for their firstborn.
Safina's father, Riziki, was also hand-reared as was her mother, Karla. Bottle-fed on the same special milk formula her parents were raised on, Safina has made herself right at home, spending much of her time being fawned over by Arnie, a ginger tom cat who has adopted the lioness cub for the time
being. Simmons stressed that raising wild animals like Safina in a domestic setting was done to ensure survival only when there was no other alternative. www.itnsource.com RTV337406

No it isn't ok to ... ( 2 weeks ago by bilbring)
No it isn't ok to snatch wild animals from a home country. But where have whites done this? They almost put bison, cougar and wolves to extinctions in America, after raping the native human population. What are Europeans doing in Africa, often living better than native Africans themselves, Let alone what are lions and tigers doing in Europe and the US? Let alone Australia re dingos and kangaroos. Suckas. Now they act like their animals "best friends", even though they stole those speciemen.

oh, no, no, no no. Don't worry, no racism here. Only moral integrity. Such as invading others lands and then acting as if to own their animals. Screw racism.
.... You obviously ... ( 2 weeks ago by mywingsareyours)
.... You obviously have no idea what actually HAPPENED with Siegfried and Roy. They STILL own those animals, they just are unable to do shows because of health reasons. What happened was situational, and the animal was not ATTACKING him. It just so happens that big cats do not understand we are not really funny looking big cats as well, and cannot take what they can physically. I know them personally. So shut up. Roy fell and his beloved animal was trying to save him.

You are right. These animals belong in the wild, but when there was no other way to save this Lion other than rear it in a home, then I am happy this is what they did. It saved the cat's life.
Christian The Lion was a similar story. His ending was happy, as he was released back to the wild of Africa, where btw, he had NEVER been. But he never forgot those who saved him.
No mywing, I buy ... ( 1 week ago by supersandor)
No mywing, I buy that there was no killing intent, but that the tiger was trying to help him up I don't believe that at all. They are not in perfect control of their instincts at all times, tigers are prone to random fits of possessiveness and short lived aggression and the problem is that they don't make the logical connections a human would 'if I bite this entity in the neck he will be hurt by it and may die', they don't understand other entity's hurt and they probably don't comprehend death.
The tiger wasn't ... ( 1 week ago by mywingsareyours)
The tiger wasn't trying to help him up, it was trying to carry him away, and didn't understand that he doesn't have the neck scruff that lions and tigers do. Roy was already down and injured, the tiger didn't attack him, and if he was showing aggression Roy would certainly be dead. And animals have to be able to comprehend death, otherwise they wouldn't kill their prey. They wouldn't mourn death the way they do (which animals, yes, actually do.)

I don't agree with you sandor. At least not fully. I agree that a tiger cannot be completely trained and can loose control of its instincts, but I also know that if that tiger did loose control, it definitely would have killed Roy. A tiger will never attack another animal that it doesn't intend to eat. And since Roy fell and wasn't moving, I can say for a fact that the tiger intentionally missed cutting his carotid artery. A tiger would never make a mistake like that on immobilized prey.

mywingsareyours - ... ( 2 days ago by supersandor)
mywingsareyours - comprehending food and comprehending loss are not the same as comprehending death. I don't deny that they try to kill prey to eat it, but I deny that they really know what it means to kill it. As for mourning death, I saw a video of a chimpanzee mother who carried her dead baby around until it rotted to nothing. That's love, that's pain of loss, yet failure to comprehend death. eklund, the tiger was not trained to kill for food by its mother, so it may not have known how.

Hmmm... I see you point. Either way I don't think anyone will completely understand what happened. People can believe whatever they want, but I doubt we will ever know the real truth.
What's the big ... ( 1 day ago by eklundhisgod)
What's the big problem? As long as the animal is well taken care of and nobody is in danger, I don't see anything wrong with adopting an exotic animal. In fact, I'm planning on adopting a cougar when I'm older. You are probably so upset because you don't know the truth about exotic animal husbandry. The media will only tell you the bad things (attacks, animal abuse, etc.) but in reality, there are many people who truly love their animals and know how to take care of them.
No, I have no ... ( 1 day ago by supersandor)
No, I have no problem with this. We have domesticated animals now because people 10k years ago forced wild animals to live with them in captivity. If they didn't do this we wouldn't have housecats, dogs, sheep, cattle, etc. now. Nonetheless, those animals weren't endangered. If you plan on having your cougar as part of a breeding program, then it's ok. That's the one variable added in that's not the same as 10k years ago. Note the leopard is the least endangered. Though hardest to tame too :(.
So best of luck ... ( 1 day ago by supersandor)
So best of luck with that. 10000 years from now, assuming the human race exists (that's a big if), there may be 'large breed' housecats. Hopefully the wild strain will be kept around as well, though. It would be a big shame if cougars survived but only as a product of human-supervised selective breeding - 'house cougars'. So I say it may be better to get an African leopard. They're the only big cat that isn't endangered at all. Just keep it away from small children cause it'll kill them.
