He sounded better when he was younger but his voice is still quite good. I never heard this piece sung by a tenor so this is something new to hear besides the altos and sopranos. Thank you.

I dont know how he sounded when he was younger, but I did not like this at all. The high piu at the end was terrible....

Agreed. It's not so bad but then again there's only the opinion we can judge by. Actually, several scholars and composers tried to claim that singers like Senesino and Caffarelli were better singers than Farinelli.

The tenor version ... ( 9 months ago by vickersman)
The tenor version is usually sung in G major...this is lower, and therefore not quite as "bright" in sound.I wouldn't say that this aria ,as it is sung here, is how I would want to remember Jose Carreras.

IMO this is a very unartistic approach to this aria. It's supposed to be a gentle word of praise to nature, not a desperate struggle for dB's. Typical italian approach.

I believe this is the original key Handel wrote it in. However, I do appreciate the lovely timbre of the higher male range. Its wonderful to follow along in the score as well. Thank you Margotlorena!

Thank you for posting this. I'm taking voice lessons and this is my first operatic piece. Very helpful to have the music. It's never to late to learn opera........even at 53 (don't expect to see me at the Met anytime soon).

Good luck with it! I find this one of the hardest arias I have sung, despite (or maybe because) it is so simple!

Wunderlich is wonderful. I like Carrerras here, but I have to agree.

all that energy wasted just on a F...ridiculous. He transposed down a key, compared to the normal transposition for tenors. It's even too low for him. And the recitative anounces what's to come, it's not that lyrical...

I see...I thought the counter-tenors sang in the right key...but yeah this aria was intended for a castrato, in the soprano range. It's funny to see that all types of voices sing it, and all sing it in different keys. Then, I'll give credit to Carreras for having respected the spirit of the composer and his work...
