Vaughan by the way was Stevie Ray Vaughan, a fanstatic guitarist one of the greatest ever. He was an incredible blues player. People should check him out, there are plenty of videos on youtube.

gio29london..Who was Vaughan??? No one knows??? Stevie Ray Vaughan was every bit the genius Bowie is. Bowie is known for his Glam Rockand Vaughan for being one of the worlds greatest guitarists. He single handedly put blues back in the mainstream to stay in the 80s. In a Rolling Stone poll he was voted 7th out of 100 top influential guitarist.

I personally put him at number two.right behind Hendrix. He was a guitar virtuoso in every sense of the word. Again, Bowie is known for his chameleon like theatrics. Vaughan was a pure, raw guitar genius. I strongly suggest you research him, not only based on his legacy but with your ears. Lets Dance, as great a song as it is, is not indicative of Vaughan powers.

Still sounds brill after all these years. It was THE song of 1983. Bowie was never as popular since. But he's still brill.

Certainly, Vaughan ... ( 2 days ago by ivankaramasov)
Certainly, Vaughan was a great guitarist, but I think Bowie has worked with better guitarists. I think both Robert Fripp and Reeves Gabrels are both more innovative and thechnically better guitarists than Vaughan. And let us not forget Mick Ronson. Maybe not to technically brilliant as a guitarist, but with his very own style which was essential (together with his arrangements) on some of Bowie's early albums.

Bowie also "discovered" 19 year old Luther Vandross in Philadelphia. Luther came up with the chorus to the hit Young Americans. Bowie took him on tour even though Bowie's manager objected saying he was too fat and that was not the image he wanted for the band.
