St. Louis Shag - Swing Dancing

Video Description:
This is a lesser-known form of Swing known as St. Louis Shag (mixed with some regular East Coast Swing). It was developed in response to the question "What do you do when the band plays Dixieland?" The song is "Crawfishin' " as played by the Kelly Jay Band and, although it's not Dixieland, it is a faster Swing song that gets closer to a Dixieland tempo. This was filmed at the historic Midway Tavern (www.themidwaytavern.com).

| Northern Indiana. I was part of a small group who was lucky (and persistent) enough to learn this from a middle-aged couple who would do it every once in a while on the dancefloor when we lived in California. I've never seen anyone else doing it, and most of the others who learned with me (if not all of them) have forgotten it. We teach it, or intend to, once we find some folks who are up to it. |
