He gave plenty of interviews in the 60's in the NME, Melody Maker. He was very articulate and cultured. And he was so damn gorgeous, truly beautiful, and a beautiful voice too. A shame he let his personal problems and insecurites get in the way.

I don't know about why he disappeared, but i loved him in the early days when he made my teenage heart flutter and these songs were truly magical. It was all Scott Engel of course, the other guys were just in it for show. I had not heard this before - very Bowiesque..but his later stuff is poetry and his music has gone very strange and i just can't listen anymore :-(

Actually, I get the impression he did brilliantly on this one, especially considering the interviewer.

What more can be said other than truely brillient. I just listend to his newer stuff, which to be honest i really didnt like. But hey, still a legend!

The 'journalist' is Muriel Gray, a typical smart-arse, 'aren't I clever and ironic' presenter so beloved of TV producers in the UK. Thankfully, she disappeared up her own arse near the end of the 1980s and was never to be seen again.

rocknmovies, "A shame he
let his personal problems and insecurites get in the way". In the way of what?. surely you do not speak of the "60s stuff?,which was "produced" by "musicians pimps" for teeny clients to melt over,.. but "music" it was not!!. He IS truly beautiful, his voice IS still beautiful, his sound artistry
has matured, perhaps too fast for a world that adores musicians(?) and miss the sound creators/artists like the composer Walker.

First his Walker Brothers best stuff (influenced by the Phil Spector sound and Spector was a genius) and his 60's solo albums were beautiful, excellent.
His personal problems (neuroses) and insecurities got in the way of achieving his goal as a solo artist, in that he let his record companies dictate some of his solo albums, he was always going on about integrity, but he put out some very average solo albums (TV series, movies, CBS country albums).

But he is so much better now musically then before in the 60's! He is a real artist!

I don't think she gets Scott or his music - her note pad probably came from someone else. She reflects sadly, the pop culture of her day, and of today - being shallow and ignorant.

Agree,Jax! Scott's decision to create art instead of commodity doesn't make him neurotic or insecure--it takes courage to open your soul&guts to the public and it's crushing to not find an audience. Esp. tough for true visionary artists. If we fans were open-minded enough to trust/allow them(Scott, whoever) to take us on their creative journey, everyone might be enriched! a perfect world! : ) ps- I find him genuine & gracious toward this interviewer who appears not to have done her homework!

I didn't know at all that Scott was interviewed on this program and had released 'climate of hunter'. I couldn't get any information about him after leaving London in 1977 and had already lost even my soul by this time.

I waited for a letter from him. It seemed to me then that it could have saved my soul. He never did so and hasn't till this day. He has tried to show his mind only by making records instead of writing them. Maybe he doesn't like an easy(cheesy)way to create something. AND he always had a dream...in the era of the Walker Brothers and even in the 80s & the 90s. How brilliantly he sang those fantastic WB songs! Who could forget them? What a young and precious shining moment!
