Der Untergang (Downfall) :: [Part 5 of 15]

Uploaded by: andersonlamarca
Video Description:
It's the last days of Adolf Hitler, April 1945, and Hitler's personal secretary Traudl Junge finds herself in the Der Fuhrer's bunker. Facing inevitable defeat, Hilter's moods range from defiance to fight or flee, remain loyal or opt for self-preservation. Eva Braun parties while Magda Goebbels kills her children. The movie goes on to show how Hitler and Eva lived their last hours in the Bunker.
The last ten days of Adolf Hitler and his Nazi regime are seen through the eyes of a young woman in his employ in this historical drama from Germany. Traudl Junge (Alexandra Maria Lara) was 22 years old when, in the fall of 1942, she was hired to be personal secretary to Adolf Hitler (Bruno Ganz). In April of 1945, Junge was still working for Hitler as forces were bearing down on Germany and the leader retreated to a secret bunker in Berlin for what would prove to be the last ten days of his life, as well as that of the Third Reich. As Hitler's mistress Eva Braun (Juliane K
öhler) attempts to throw a cheerful birthday party for her man, Hitler's closest associates, including Heinrich Himmler (Ulrich Noethen), Joseph Goebbels (Ulrich Matthes), and Albert Speer (Heino Ferch), urge him to flee the city with only Goebbels maintaining any illusions that the Third Reich has
any hope of survival. Hitler refuses to leave Berlin, and he spends his final days ranting and raving to Junge, blaming all around him as he tries to understand where his leadership went wrong. Meanwhile, Goebbels and his wife round up their six children and bring them to the bunker as Berlin begin
s to topple, determined to take their lives rather than face the Allies after Germany's certain defeat. Der Untergang (aka The Downfall) was based in part on the memoirs of the real-life Traudl Junge, whose experiences also formed the basis of the 2002 documentary Im Toten Winkel: Hitlers Sekretarin
(aka Blind Spot: Hitler's Secretary).

I haven't read that much about Hitler, but from what I can gather, he should have left the business of war to the generals and concentrated on politics. I don't think he was cut out to be a military leader, I mean, who in their right mind would invite war on two fronts at the same time?

why havent the british been mentioned once? those guys were the main guys to have fought the nazis and wear them down..The US joined in the last 5 minutes and claimed victory...only way we can win a war i guess!! Brits not getting the credit they deserve here!
This movie is about ... ( 1 month ago by andersonlamarca)
This movie is about Hitler's last days in the bunker (Berlin). Soviet artillery opened up an intensive bombardment of the Chancellery and neighbouring buildings. Although the Red Army count with the allies to win the war, they were sole responsible for the German capitulation in Berlin.
What credit? ... ( 1 month ago by angyalpalmer)
What credit? Without American military help and money they were like rats in a hole. Hitler killed himself when he decided to break the Eastern front pact with Stalin and open a second front, henceforth the destiny of the war had changed. However
´ex post´ it´s easy to judge: when Germany had UK under bombing siege and few km´s from Moscow, even the most optimistic wouldn´t have thought of the possibility to revert the situation. The US intervention was the key factor of the change.

no, seriously, can't believe that you don't know basic world war two history.
The americans made up 95 percento of the Normandy invasion force, and probably that much of the force that invaded Berlin. The British were on the brink of defeat and had a very small force as part of the invasion. You know nothing about world war 2. It's sad.

"The americans made up 95 percent of the Normandy invasion force, and probably that much of the force that invaded Berlin." The Americans were never in Berlin.
the first time that ... ( 1 month ago by Anghellik9)
the first time that american troops made contact with the germans, it was in africa in 1943. This is after the Battle of Britain was over and operation Sealion was abandoned, and the Germans lost at Kursk, effectively ending Operation Citadel, which is the point where the germans started to lose the war. the 1944 landings were the first large scale offensive the US took part in, at which time it is fair to consider the US to be the final nail in Germany's coffin.

the americans were never in berlin, the US stormed 2 of the beaches on D-day, Omaha being the hardest beach to take out of the five, and Utah being the easiest. the british took Gold and Sword, and Canada took Juno, arguably the hardest beach to take, competing with Omaha. heres the most striking fact: a breakdown of the german in 1944: 70% of German troops fighting on Eastern Front. 20% fighting on the Western. 10% for smaller theatres.

he single handedly both brought Germany out of the darkness of the worst depression the world has ever seen (3,000,000 deutschmarks for a single US dollar), and doomed Germany to defeat.

Hitler was like most of the conquerors - he wanted to much ! If he would have be happy with only western Europe he may have succeeded. He had to leave the former USSR and the UK alone...Not sure the Americans would even have tried to save Western Europe...

if hitler had not allied with Japan, not broken his pact with Russia, and not wnted to take over the US, he would have ealily rules all of Europe and almost all of Africa.

You're quoting minor blows in the whole framwork of a WORLD war. US granted lend-lease helps to UK and USSR without which they would have made it barely to the winter after. I don't like US, but historically they turned the events of war on the Allied side. Otherwise you England would be a German Lander with kids chanting Deutchsland Deutchsland marching at the goose step...
US were more ... ( 3 weeks ago by angyalpalmer)
US were more concerned at the Pacific theatre where they had most of the losses, but their intervention in Europe was of key importance. Britons would have never staged a landing in Europe alone...didn't have means (and maybe guts at all). For them was enough to keep free their home soil and f*ck Europe and all the Philisteans. Greedy Brits...
Nah, the Germans ... ( 3 weeks ago by TheGeneralHimself92)
Nah, the Germans inflicted more casualties on the Americans that the Japanese did. America lost 100,000 men in the Pacific, the rest was in Europe and Africa.
