Go with me on this: There's the section between 4:40 and 6:46 where the composition talk a moment to express what may in fact be the slowing of time that the matador senses before the bull charges. Remember that this was composed for the piano at a time when music was taking a very impressionist visual turn. Ravel understood this suspense in the musical narrative, and so spares no instrument in this section. This has to be the confrontation between man and beast. Simply Amazing.
