Here is a dance routine performed in the Fred Astaire Cyd Charisse movie "Silk Stockings." Fred dances with three girls to a cha-cha, most of it are showsteps, we also see how he dances the cha-cha. Choreography by Hermes Pan.
This 1957 film features Cyd Charisse as a stanch communist sent to Paris to bring back a Soviet composer and three commissars who defect after being corrupted by capitalistic decadence. Fred charms Cyd which she then dumps her drab clothing for an elegant dress. And obviously great dance routine
s by Cyd and Fred. This dance routine is very spectacular by these three women dance superbly but wearing very beautiful dresses, fashions no longer seen. No idea the names of these three who are obviously professional dancers and probably rehearsed this single 3 minute routine for weeks. "Silk St

hase as dancer Gabrielle (the brunette in gold dress and long gloves), Barrie went on to be Fred Astaire's TV program partner. Tybee Afra as dancer Fifi (dark hair in red dress), Tybee is from Cuba and regarded as one of the hottest rhythm dancers of the time. As you can see this Latina definitely
has the cha-cha moves. Sadly she passed away in 1982. Betty Uitti as dancer Suzette (the blonde in the dropped-waist beautiful dress). Could not find any more info on Betty.

| Additional comment to add was this movie was shown at Stanford Theatre in Palo Alto, CA in July 2007. Unlike the TV set, perception on full screen (full cinemascope) is much more so you get more of details and movements. You can see the three girls physical build like open pro class seen in top competition ballroom dancers, especially the one in the red dress. Unfortunately the VHS of this film was not letterboxed and a lot of important scenery on the sides is missing. |

I spent some time with Cyd Charisse a couple of years ago and I can tell you she is a nice lady, very beautiful...amazingly so...still!! Perfect posture.
