Nah man slap/pop ... ( 2 weeks ago by Grungejunkie101)
Nah man slap/pop has been around for ages. Jazz Upright players used to play that shit back in the 20's and stuff.
He was probably the first to used it on an electric bass.

DeRauser, this Larry Graham invented the pop and slap technique. He's the master so.

Different kind of slapping completely cum-grenade, nothing but the name is alike between Double Bass players and what they do on bass.

That's beside the point; I'm asking why you have to put up only the 'classic players' in a list. What makes them so special? Yes they were pioneers but they got their influence from somewhere just like bass players today who are playing completely new sounds drew their influences from them. Old is sweet and old rules, but I don't see why old has to mean best. In a list of top 5 players I don't think it's fair to exclude modern bass players for having been born later or because of skin colour.
As I said, my list ... ( 1 week ago by vengaben)
As I said, my list is unimportant but I'd probs go Claypool, Flea, Graham, Bootsy and Louis Johnson. However if We aren't restricted to funk / slap players then Claypool, Flea, Graham, Nick Oliveri and Lex Feltham (original bass player from Frenzal Rhomb).

hmmm i dig what you're saying. i think the old are definetly the beloved by most. i don't have too many old favorites, but you can't bash the old guys, they musta really did something. you know? so much for influences though, they really created something. other than that, i guess it depends what you call the best. it should be more specific as to what kind of list it would be.

chuckbojaxon: "Look ... ( 3 days ago by vengaben)
chuckbojaxon: "Look at me, I know the names of talented bass players. That means they MUST be on everyone's list." First of all, I don't remember taking a poll on who should be in my list, second of all; I don't like the who and I'm not really interested in who John Entwistle influenced, even if they are amazing bassists themselves.
Last but not least ... ( 3 days ago by vengaben)
Last but not least Wooten is an amazingly talented and accomplished bassist but he's a pretentious cock who's too skilled for his own good. He lets his talent and skill get in the way of him playing decent music, have you heard his shit? 95% of it is just complete shit with over-complex bass lines throughout; in interviews he sounds like the most smug, pompous bastard who ever picked up a bass (besides Pastorius). The dude could never write a catchy song like Flea or Les.
VICTOR WOOTEN IS A ... ( 2 days ago by jagbass1016)
VICTOR WOOTEN IS A PRETENTIOUS COCK?! excuse me but save that assumption until you have had the chance to meet him. victor is one of the nicest and most humble people i have ever had the chance to meet. yes i do know vic. i had the chance to attend his bass nature camp. not only was he an incredible teacher, he was an incredible human being. and what is this 95% thing? you obviously have heard vic lay down a tasty groove up close and personal. victor is a groove machine first, and thats that
