just by mixing those artist's styles together shows the mars volta's creativity. But with the latin flavor and what not, they're even more original. you could say that any prog band is a rip of king crimson just cause they started so much of it, same with hendrix and pink floyd they all started things that nobody else can start again, but people can still play with that style. that's like saying any hard rock band involing acoustic guitar, is a rip off of zeppelin.

unfortunately they're so progressive that they hardly play anything over 1 record old but they played drunkship for us at columbus as a sort of apologizing for canceling on us twice.

It's (as far as I know, and I know other internet fucktards are gonna come down on me for a single error here) not really a song about something, but an album portraying the story of Cerpin Taxt. Here he's overdosing on morphine and ends up in a coma. The whole album's story is pretty fucked, but I prescribe LSD for that one.
