When I said the Bible is the standard for the true Christian faith, I meant this: Jesus' words were recorded for all time in the Bible, by those who knew Him and heard Him. They recorded His actual words for us to benefit from. "For all Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction and training in righteousness that the man of God may be perfect(mature), thoroughly furnished unto all good works." 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

hk: I'm simply pointing out that the Bible contains Jesus' teachings/doctrines which Christians should cling to/follow. Regretably, the Roman Catholic Church has come up with many of its own teachings which are not only not found in the Bible but actually contradict it. Given a choice to follow Jesus or Rome, genuine Christians will follow the Lord. John 10:1-21 is applicable here. "...the sheep follow Him for they know His voice, a stranger they will not follow but will flee from him..." v.4-5

gguy see comments below on the Bible as the Standard of the faith. Good translations include the King James, New American Standard, New International, Revised Standard, to name a few. As an exCatholic and current born again Christian I can summarize the problem with the Catholic church this way: They have seriously erred from the truth of Scripture and have turned the Free Gift of salvation by grace thru faith into a thing one works for. But God won't be put under obligation by our good works.

As much as Jesus emphasized that the kingdom of God is within and that we are to love one another as we are loved by God.... his teachings were lost almost entirely after his death, leaving us with the Catholic Church. St. Francis lived a life of poverty, simplicity, and austerity.... But the fraternal order he founded soon became one of wealth, patriarchy, and power. Let us pray: God, please save us from your followers!

i agree with you!! maybe these people were cast because of their other attributes like acting, etc. maybe it is to show that people with good looks that the WORLD so highly esteems can walk away from that and still follow God. i have heard stupid comments in my life, like.. too cute to be a priest, or too pretty to be a nun... ACTUALLY the music is by Riz Ortolani. English lyric and vocal by Donovan. Italian lyric by Benjamin; sung by Claudio Baglioni. Maybe Zeffirelli's most overlooked film. When he originally wanted to make the film -- a stunningly beautiful one -- back in the 1960s with songs by The Beatles, it might have had a resonance with a young cinema-going audience. By the time it got made, "flower" had lost its "power" and the film totally bombed. The two leads went on to near-oblivion. Stunning movie.

I notice there is much debate about the Bible and the Roman Catholic church. What does any of that matter? All the dark voices who try and explain Christ Jesus away as a myth -- no! there was a real human being under all that -- none of them can deny the historical reality of Beloved Brother Francis! Another fine exemplar. When 'the voice' said "Rebuild my Church" it was referring of course to the entire monstrosity.

WaltC ~ I would say The Bible contains "edited highlights" of Christ Jesus' teaching. For a fuller account, obtain a copy [go for the DeVorss edition] or look-up online, 'The Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ'. The American Christian who channelled that astounding book took 40 years. What a gift to humankind! As to works and salvation, it depends which part of the New Testament you take ~ anyone can read in the Book of Revelations that, after death, everyone is judged ACCORDING TO THEIR WORKS
