Django is the name of the 1966 Spaghetti Western movie that this is a remake of. The director (Takashi Miike) is playing with words in the first part of the title as Sukiyaki is a Japanese tofu dish, i.e. instead of Spaghetti Western he is calling his own style of western Sukiyaki Western. Hence although it is a remake of Django it is the Sukiyaki Western version as oppose to the Spaghetti Western version. Well at least that's my take on it. Hope that helps.

it's not so much a remake of Django as it is a remake of Fistful of Dollars, which is also a remake of yojimbo. Obviously, there are multiple references to Django... coffin, machine gun, hero, NAME.

i think the only people that can really appreciate this to the fullest are people who have seen Yojimbo, Fistful of Dollars, and Django... at least. The Engrish is a reference to spaghetti westerns too... so i guess it's kinda what makes it work.
