| I have heard many versions of this song and nobody can touch The Carpenters rendition. This song was made for Karen's voice. Caitlin is OK but she don't even come close to Karen Carpenter. And this video, why are they signing the song? Do deaf people go to concerts where this lady comes from? Very odd. |

| Nice rendition. But I prefer Karen Carpenter's version much much more. Karen sang the song without any "tricks", pure and simple, and her voice was so unique and rich. And there's also a touch of melancholy in Karen's voice that compliments this song's message of hope. |

| Are you kidding? Karen had one of the finest female voices of all time. How can you compare a muppet with a human being? Kermit sang it so wimpy and silly. Karen never added tricks to any of her songs, especially here. She had one of the best female voices of all time---she and Teresa Teng, a female Chinese singer who isn't well known in the West but had the best handling of a vocal instrument. | By "tricks" I don't mean studio tricks, I mean all Karen's little embellishments -- just listen to how she sings the word "many" in the first line. I don't have anything against her, but that's not "simple" singing compared to Kermit. (By the way, "I'm not comparing a muppet to a human being", because it's a human being doing Kermit's voice. I thought everyone knew that.) |

| Kermit sang the entire song with affectation. In other words, it was just an "act"---a frog trying to sing a song, which we all know a frog can't. That's why it's so contrived and "silly" sounding. The producers of the show meant it to be that way. There's nothing spontaneous or pure about the Kermit version. |

| Well, yes, seen from the perspective that it's Henson doing his Kermit voice, it's contrived; from the perspective that it's Kermit singing, it's straighter than any version -- because in terms of melody, he keeps it as simple as possible. I gave an example of this from the first line. |

| Ostentatious and too much production. This is a song that needs more honesty in a performance. Had she ditched the orchestra, the visuals etc... then she could bear her soul in this song. All I see here is "look at me, look at me!" being offered to a crowd of culture poseurs. Sorry, just calling it as I see it. Willie Nelson's version is light years ahead of this and although it's a produced video doesn't come off an ounce contrived. |
