Virginia is easy to compete in, cause there are really not that many good bands sadly. After competing in VA for 5 years, you'll learn that we need a better state competition. Point being, VA has some weak band programs for the most part.

yeah madison county is not the most winning band in VA..my band is about 40 less memebers then you guys and we beat you guys at a competition this year scorewise even though we're not in the same class. there are many good bands, just the talent is spread out throughout the classes.
PCHSalumni--yes i do agree, VBODA is not a good state program, but there are many many many good bands in VA and obviously your band isn't going to the right competitions. go to JMU's POC and check out those bands!

We did compete there in my 9th grade year, then we went down to the Cary band day near Raleigh, and the competition was so so much harder. And one of the few awesome bands at the POC was science hill, from tennessee, not va. From Virginia, Bassett, James Madison, and a few others are really good bands. Bassett won 2nd in the nation at ussba i believe...

Yes I was there, I know where Science Hill is. Why doesn't Battlefield attend POC? They should..VA has some very, very prestigious band programs. Charlottesville, North Stafford, Oakton (Who beat Battlefield this year, in case you forgot), Colonial Heights, South County, Spotswood, Harrisonburg, Turner Ashby, Fluvanna County (Won the USSBA National Title in 07 I believe). there are MANY good bands in VA. Your band just doesn't go to the right competitions in VA because there are many good bands.

Ok if u wanna see a great small town band wit many people in it. check out the Virginia Marching Blues. There are maybe 800 kids in 7-12 and they are awesome!! u gotta check it out!!
