It's a transverse LEAF spring - who said anything about 'traditional' being the key factor? A leaf spring is a leaf spring, even though the one on the corvette runs at 90 degrees to tradition and is made from trick materials. The fact that the rear suspension is independant is absolutely academic - you could use the same transverse spring with a live axle if you were really determined, and then it would handle just as badly as the current stock Mustang (and yes, it is bad).

The Corvette handles very well because it's extremely lightweight and the rest of the suspension is very well designed. The transverse leaf simply keeps the weight down over coil springs, and lets the entire suspension take up less space. On its own it achieves very little, and can't be considered the sole reason for the ZR1s brilliant handling.
Whichever way you slice it, the Corvette is a modern American car that uses leaf springs, neatly proving you wrong.

Umm a ford focus is extremely lightweight and doesn't handle well pretty much making the weight point moot.. Yes the suspension is designed very well.. Proving my point about american engineering as well.. And a live leafspring suspension uses the leafspring in itself as not only a supporting spring for the suspension system but also for ride height.. If you think that the transverse spring in a corvette does either one of those tasks you're an idiot.. That spring is basically an anti-roll bar.

And if you honestly think that a roll bar is the main support of any suspension you're dumber than I thought.. Clearly you don't even understand how a suspension works in the 1st place.. You take the leaf springs out of a pickup truck the rear end would be touching the bed.. You take the coil springs out of the front of a car and the tires would be inside the fender.. You take the transverse spring out of a vette it still sits exactly the same.. Words cannot express your lack of knowledge..

And it doesn't prove me wrong considering the traditional leaf spring 872254 was talking about not only holds the rear end in place and at the correct angle,it is also the only support for it in the 1st place.. Upper and lower control arms do that for a vette not the spring.. The reason it handles so well is cause it is very nicely balanced having the transmission in the back..

I take that back, the car would sit lower without the spring, I thought the new vettes used rear struts instead of shocks.. Regaurdless you can't say that a car that slaloms better than most cars priced 10x as much is anything but outdated and a poor design.. You also can't compare a traditional leaf spring design with that of a vette as I explained already.. I'd say for the money it's one of the best handling cars on the road ever made.. I wouldn't call that bad engineering..

I didn't actually say that it was an anti roll bar - a full width spring does have an similar anti-roll effect to a bar but isn't one. Corvettes have run a central rear spring since the late 60s and those handled very badly, so it's the rest of the suspension that works well in the ZR1.
You might also notice that I never said that the Corvette was a bad car - quite the opposite. Nor did I say that leaf springs were bad because they're an old technology - so are internal combusiton engines!

The ZR1 is a stunning car, as I've always maintained.. you were having that argument with someone else, not me - I just answered your question about leaf springs playing a part in a modern vehicle. Sticking to the recipe worked well for them, but doesn't for everyone - look at the Stang's live axle for proof!
And I do know a bit about how various suspension systems work - otherwise my car would now be running on some very dangerous kit because I didn't understand it before I fitted it :)

thats a big if considering how reliable a zx12 is and it's running at twice the RPM. That's more than twice the heat produced by friction so the components have to be exponentially stronger. And where do you plan on "carrying" this zx12r on your bosshoss that you can barely stretch over to grab the bars lol. What a hunk of junk.
