You think jazz is just playing the blues scale? Have you actually listened to any jazz?
First of all, this ... ( 1 year ago by miphka66)
First of all, this tune is not a blues, formally speaking. And those "wrong notes" are pretty standard melodic/harmonic development for present-day jazz.

Replace Blues Scale with Lydian b7 and you might be a little closer to Scofield land.

Lydian b7 is a mode ... ( 1 year ago by Beijibryn)
Lydian b7 is a mode of the melodic minor scale. In C it consists of the notes C D E F# G A Bb. As such it has a raised 4 and a flat 7 and so is used of an suitably altered c7 chord. I have a copy of notes from a seminar John ran in the early 80's along with David Baker and others in which this scale is mentioned. Ten months aint enough time to know the ins and outs of jazz. Time for you to hit the books again.

modes don't exist only music! learn to hear the effect of all 12 tones in a tonality. music is making good melodies and rhythm not studying modes which don't exist!

I think,if Scofield would read such comments written from such silly, stupid idiots like most of You,he would laugh himself to death!!! Unbelievable that the world is full of such silly little boys having no idea what great players they are allowed to listen to!! how can you critisize such musicians like them??? But it`s true: silly is still silly---there helps no medicine!!!!!

Yeah. I'm not a musician, but I have my own tape of this from this Mt. Fuji broadcast and have always enjoyed how he plays against time. It's interesting. Al DiMeola says he does it, too.

Anthony cox must be one of the greatest bass players of the century, Joe lovano is the one having such a perfect "time" and a great sound, great phrases... And I do not even talk about Scofield !
After reading ... ( 6 months ago by lalulofi)
After reading comments here I better understand those disconnected responses and faces among some of the Jazzaudiences. If your ears don
´t hear it, brains don´t get it, hips don´t swing it, you feel more comfortable in front of the lying TV. What you don´t dig is "wrong". Please keep trying! This planet desperately needs a return of culture and people with hearts and brains.
Oh, man... Anthony ... ( 5 months ago by perovaas)
Oh, man... Anthony Cox is one of the greatest! It is a surprise to me that just a few are so connected to his work. Cox is one of the few who knows how to blend floor and space perfectly! And what a walking bass he has!
If you like Anthony ... ( 5 months ago by JesusChrist5000)
If you like Anthony Cox's bass, check out a search of Ramon Pooser, Poozer? Pooser ... Yes Pooser I think.

The Simpsons theme ... ( 3 months ago by dreamsofhaegum)
The Simpsons theme is in lydian b7, or mixolydian #4 if you'd prefer to call it that. Both are the same thing, they're just explaining the degrees of the scale in a quick way. Maybe 10 months isn't enough prandall240.
Nice playing JSG
