Pretty much, yes it is. Bryan Singer described it as a continuation after Superman II, showing that Superman and Lois's night together when he lost his powers wasn't without its consequences.

I decided to watch this tribute to reeves and it ended up being one great movie. Excellent acting, effects, and color. Turning out to be one of the best supermans of all.

returns sucked, why? 1) returns is bass after superman 3 and that was 1983,if superman was gone for 5 years and came back and
 it was 1988 why is everything so modern. and why does Louis and clark look younger. 2)giving Louis lane a different look.if you look for a reeves you should look for a kidder.and acting sucked for the characters 3) giving young Clark glasses 4)having a kid. guy's want to be free and fly not
have kids.next thing you know married with children returns.

they forgot to use clark kent on this movie... it was so ridiculous, clark is the main caracter, superman is only his alter ego. in this movie it is so ridiculous the way clark doesnt mind that lois is in love with superman and does not care about him as a real person and he even change into to superman to talk to her romantically!!

they didn't forget clark. they just treat clark and superman as the same person. and clark had wanted to talk to lois privately, but it's just that lois didn't want to and it's not convenient and stuff. lois has a SON and a FIANCE remember? so clark aka superman can only sneak up to the roof and take lois for a ride so as to talk to her privately and to let her take a glimpse of what his world is like.
