After picking up the new iPhone 3g, I wanted ringtones just like everyone out there. But obviously I didn't want to pay for them. I mean who would really "want" to pay for them if you can make your own for free? Someone told me how to create my own using any mp3 and garageband. So I thought I'd pass the knowledge. If there are any questions, feel free to ask! Thanks!

| hmmmm...do me a favor and check to see what version you have of it. when garageband is open click the garageband tab at the top and select "about garageband". it will tell you the version number. the create ringtone option was introduced in the 4.1.1 version. if your is lower then you'll need to update it. |

| ok I pressed Check for updates on garageband but it comes up with a message box that says "This version of garageband 3.0.4(104.7) is the current version", and it wont update itself at all :( |

| ok. what you need to do is go to apples website and go to the downloads page. find the download category Apple and choose Application Updates. the 4.1.1 update will be in there. or to make it easier just google garageband 4.1.1 update and it should come up. |

| sweet - i got the 4.1.1 pkg..... but when i run installer to get it installed, the installer tells me that it couldn't find and eligible garageband application in the /application folder. WTH!!!!!! sorry for constantly bothering you with this... much appreciated |

| ha its no problem. im thinking it might be because you dont have current garageband 4 version. you have garageband 3 which came with iLife '06. garageband 4 comes with iLife '08. im 95% sure thats what the problem is. |

| yeah. i dont think you can buy garageband 4 as a stand-alone app. you would have to purchase iLife '08. and that will definitely fix that. i had recently bought a macbook pro in december so it had iLife '08 installed already. |
