So weird. I remember September 16th 1979 for some strange reason (I was 12 and it was a fun day so the date stuck). To think this was a day later, and I see The Cars looking so classic here. Puts it into perspective!

yes i think this is one of the few bands i can enjoy without being annoyed by the synth. he knows what he's doing behind those boards.

I saw The Cars in Vancouver five days after this was recorded. Cars music was always being played during my (1979) graduation year at parties. We loved it. But folks, it did not translate very well live on that night. I think that in front of 16,000 fans in Vancouver they were in over their heads at that point. Two albums worth of material with very few tricks up their sleeve and little if any movement on stage. I thought Ben Orr was a great singer.

How is it that they sound just as good live as they do on their recordings? It's phenomenal! I know of very, very few bands that sound so close to their recordings, and Ben Orr's voice doesn't hurt that one bit. The guy is one hell of a singer!
