It's hard to believe that Rod went from being a wailing, soulful singer to being an international mom favorite.

Whole group was terrific.Beck could play like this and soulffully melodic like on "People get Ready".Woody's bassplaying was amazing (listen to Morning Dew too). Rod was the first true hard rock singer and Waller's unique drumming is also highlighted on "Every picture tells a story"

Think about it: this was from October of 1968. The only other guitar player doing anything CLOSE to this was Hendrix. Jeff Beck was, and still is, the best electric guitar player on the planet. Watch the recent Jools Holland video of Jeff playing the blues. Absolutely brilliant.

Hendrix was ... ( 4 days ago by mdc53)
Hendrix was fabulous, no question about it. He was one of the four best that came out of that time including Clapton and Page. But Beck was playing unbelievable stuff with the Yardbirds a few years before Hendrix, like controlled feedback, whammy bar gymnastics, distortion and harmonic manipulations. If you ask guitarists, I'm talking about real guitar professionals, not garage band amateurs, to name the best guitarists ever, Jeff Beck will be at the top of most lists.

There is no comparing almost anyone to Hendrix,he was light years ahead of his time.
He might have emulated the feedback and distortion of the Yardbirds but he developed his it into his own style. He was different kind of player than Beck,a heavier blues-rock player, while Beck swung off into Jazz. Beck is better than Page or Clapton for sure.
I love Jimi's work ... ( 9 hours ago by chillichomper)
I love Jimi's work but he admitted "stealing" alot of stuff from jeff beck to the british press back in the day. Yes. Hendrix was a great showman, composer, player and Icon BUT beck is definitely was and is a better musician that hendrix ever was. Sorry. What press cares about a recluse/eccentric white guy when you have an in your face black guy fronting a band of white musicians bedding a bunch of white chicks to report on. Have things really changed so much today?
