Denon DN-790R Cassette Deck Featuring Maxell Metal Vertex

Uploaded by: X2000R
Video Description:
As good as it gets. My trusty Denon DN-790R cassette deck playing a legendary Maxell Metal Vertex type cassette tape. Note the stupendously high peaks-some briefly hitting +10. If you hear any distortion, it's the limits of the compressed bandwidth here and not the tape. I can assure you of that. Was also recorded using Dolby S. And the delicious irony here is that the content being played was originally a vinyl LP recording (I used a CD 'safety copy' though for this tape). I've said it before and I'll say it again: Nakamichi decks may be great, but there is a little too much elitism among that group. They did NOT by any means corner the market on good cassette decks. Need proof? Look no further than the three head black beauty Denon shown here. Tape 'door' was intentionally removed for filming.

For your opinion on the Nakamichi decks, I agree. They are good, but there's too much elitism and, IMO, they do not compare anyways to a high end cassette deck that employs Dolby S since for a deck to have it requires its design pass specific criteria set by Dolby Labs. I can manage awfully good recordings on my Sony TC-K707ES and its bias/level calibration mode makes it very easy to squeeze as much performance out of every last bit of magnetic particles as possible on any tape I use with it.

Put &fmt=18 after the URL to hear it in stereo. Makes it sound much better.

"Rennaisance Man" by The Ocean Blue. Unless you can find it on Itunes or else someone else who has it, it's going to be a hard song to track down. It was only released on vinyl in 1990 or so as part of a promo with the Mighty Lemon Drops. I was told that only 2500 pressings were made. And I had to jump through a lot of hoops to get it.
And yeah. I love that song too.
