Its not the subject of this song - around 11 years ago Eric Burdon did a new version of the song for a beer advert from a Tyneside brewery with the original words "There is a house in Tyneside.... its called the rising sun".... the pub now has a commemorative plaque outside it detailing its history and claim to fame. first of all,it's not a British song,it's an American folk song that goes back to the early 20th century...any other use is either coincidence or marketing...Asian immigrants were the source of opium back then,hence the "rising sun" reference...this song was written long before Eric Burdon was born

Actually, this is an old folk song supposedly taken from a story about an old woman who lost her husband to tuberculosis. Bob Dylan acquired it and created his version of it, while the Animals did the same thing.

At least the singing is lipsynced. It's way too similar to the studio version. Same goes for the isntruments actually, but seeing as covered instruments are less common those might be live.
