pretty good tutorial, I followed your directions and found my wpa password after I added it to the password list. I was concerned because the wpa handshake came up instantly on mine, but when I deauth two other WPA routers, no wpa handshake after waiting 15 minutes.

in order to crack a wpa password you need to have that exact word in a file or dictionary. Backtrack3 comes with a 2 small dictionary's (that i know of)and can be located the pentest/wireless/aircrack and pentest/wireless/cowpatty.just follow my video on how to use the dictionary. If the password does not come up in those dictionarys i suggest downloading a very big dictionary. I dont have a link to any but im sure you can google for a nice size one. remember,the word has to be in the dictionary

backtrack3 comes with the aircrack-ng the airodump-ng and the aireplay-ng .....no other downloads needed.

Where would you suggest I obtain a good WPA dictionary? I will be installing bt3 on a usb drive, what size do you suggest? I assume at least 4Gb if not 8Gb do to the size of a good dictionary. They are so cheap these days.

mine's a laptop .. im running wondows xp and using vmware to run backtrack .. i think it's becoz i didnt install the wifi card for backtrack

vmware does not support bulit in wifi cards, you must get a usb wifi card to use wifi.

once cracked is there a way to use the network anonymously? So the network admin would not be able to track you down. I mean hypothetically of coarse, because cracking a network which isn't your own in purely illegal and I and the the rest of backtrack community would never dream of breaking such laws.

Well hypothetically you could change you mac adress to something like 11:22:33:44:55, and hypothetically you could change your computer name to something less obvious than john doe's computer , and then hypothetically if you connect to someones router which isnt yours the only way he could find you is by searching the 500 feet radius of the wifi's reception :)

that wordlist is garbage. wpa passwords need to be at least 8 charecters long. this dictionary goes through every combonation starting with 1 charecter. it took so long that i never even got to 5 charecters.....im not even sure that it even comes up to 8 charecters being that its only 28 gig.
there is no point of having a dictionary with anything less than 8 charecter combanations.
