HATE the video. The message of the song is that the ghetto is rough as hell, hard to get out of, and the last thing any young kid should do is fall into a life of crime. BUT, if innocent, law abiding homies like Grandmaster Flash and his crew are getting taken away for no damn reason, why NOT turn to crime? The video sends the message that youll be arrested no matter what. How's that supposed to make some poor kid in the inner city want to stay in school? It sends the message that you cant win.

this song made the tops in the summer of 1982...they are new yorkers but that summer the song was playing on the radio all across the country 'till california..(where they performed live at the "country club") you can also find this info, from Anthony Kiedis "scar tissue" biography book..i can clearly listen why this lyrics rythm was an inspiration for Kiedis..(lots of similarities with 1st&2nd peppers album lyrics style) ..puff daddy probably was teenager or younger at that time ..great song 2
