I wouldn't recommend it. It has an acoustic pickup which is microphonic which tends not to handle distortion very well at all. They get very muddy, noisy, and a lot of feedback.

I have one and it is so much fun to play. One thing to watch out for is the frets. Mine came with very sharp frets that were too long for the fret board. When i got this fixed it played and sounded great.

Why would you use distortion with this guitar? It's not an electric guitar, it's an electro-acoustic. Distortion doesn't work well on acoustic guitars. Also, the pickups aren't 'microphonic'. They're piezo pickups that are placed under the saddle which translate pressure vibrations into a current. These pickups are fine for distortion, but it depends on their purpose. These are made and configured to amplify an acoustic sound, and thus it will not work with distortion very well.

Could you please tell me if the nylon stringed version makes any sound at all when not plugged to anything? you see i practice for long hours at night and i really don't like using headphones while playing for long periods of time, I used to do that with my electric and it sort of affected my hearing. So Can the nylon string one be played just like an unplugged electric?

I've got a different brand of silent guitar - not Yamaha, a far cheaper thing, but the same principle: No corpus, just nylon strings on a piece of wood, so to say. :) I'll be posting a video about this later this week, I suppose.
No, of course they are not completely silent, it's very much like an unplugged electric solid body. Just that it's nylon strings, which of course feels like a spanish guitar when you play it.
