I am one of the world's greatest Jeff beck fan's, but his version wasn't the original, though it was the first that most people heard. The original was by Moloch, a blues/rock band from Memphis, featuring the locally legendary Lee Baker on guitar. Beck covered it a couple of years later.

Um, no. Goin' Down ... ( 3 months ago by simplesoma36)
Um, no. Goin' Down was written by Don Nix and first appeared on Freddie King's "Getting Ready" in 1971. If you have never heard it, you should run, not walk, to get a copy and find out just why Freddie King is so revered by luminaries like Beck and Clapton.

Don Nix wrote the song. Don Nix produced Moloch's album in 1970, where they did the first recorded version. Don Nix produced "Getting Ready" in 1971, where Freddie King did the definitive version. Freddie King's version: definitive, yes; first, no. I'm sure you have seen the old B&W clip of Freddie King playing it in front of a jump band sort of group. That is the coolest thing anywhere on YouTube.

Ack! My brain is going soft. The B&W of Freddie with the jump band is of "Hideaway" not "Goin' Down."

That's Leon Russell my friend. He's played with a who's who's list of music giants. The other guy singing is J.J. cale, who wrote the song Cocaine that Eric Clapton made famous. He also wrote many other songs that famous groups recorded. Do yourself a favor and research these guys.
