Check out Aerial Boundaries, Rootwitch or Because It's There for some of Michael's more otherwordly guitar technique. Michael was a true singularity. If you've come this far you owe it to yourself to hear some of his own compositions.

You missed a few points, linda: C} Michael Hedges was by most accounts a remarkably humble and unassuming man. D) Among guitar players, Hedges was widely acknowledged for his innovation and brilliance. This is not my opinion, but simple historic fact. There's no accounting for taste, but theoachterberg is clearly no musician. D) Her latest comments are right up there with Pat Robertson's attributing the hurricane destruction of New Orleans to divine retribution for homosexual behavior.

Probably the most prominent protest song of my generation. I remember the Hell's Angel incident and all the protest going on. Beautiful music and poignantly persuasive in lyrical content. I love all the good versions of the song no matter who is singing it.....

I was 22 when the 'Stones released Gimme
Shelter in 1969, but I have been enjoying much of their music since 1963/4. Of all the various version of Gimme Shelter that are available to listen to I especially like this one by Michael Hedges. It's very haunting and beautifuly played in the style of a lament or a ballad by sombody who has been shaken by the consequences of war rather than as in the 'Stones release where Mick Jagger is warning of what is to come.
