Mother Goose Goes To Hollywood (1938)

Uploaded by: TheHideHoMan
Video Description:
A great cartoon with caricatures of great stars of 1938: Katherine Hepburn, les Marx Brothers, W. C. Fields, Charles Laughton, Spencer Tracy, Laurel et Hardy, Edward G. Robinson, Clark Gable, Fred Astaire, Greta Garbo... and Fats Waller and the great Cab CALLOWAY. Due to those racist stereotypes, this cartoon has been banned. It's been nominated for the Oscars... bit it went to Ferdinand the Bull.

LOL I laughed as soon as the Marx Brothers came in. I wonder what they thought of that.
I love Hardy's little hand gestures. And then when Donald Duck and Charlie McCarthy showed up, great moments. Charlie's even cuter as a cartoon, lol. Obviously some of it is stereotypical in a bad way. And that's a sad blight on an otherwise great cartoon. But thankfully we've come a long way. :

It's unquestionably Judy Canova. Cass Daley wasn't even in Hollywood in 1938, while Judy had been since 1934.

Well, maybe it is Martha, now that I look at the clip again. The problem is that it doesn't really sound like her and I don't remember ever seeing her in pigtails. However, while Judy Canova did wear pigtails, I don't believe she ever sang swing music. her act was strictly hillbilly music (though occasionally she would sing a straight ballad on her radio show).

Man, I've always wondered what came after Little Jack Horner; they would always cut the cartoon off right there before Cab Calloway would appear; Now I know why.

I thought I was the only one who thought of that! Disney's cartoons are a bit boring if you ask me, Looney Tunes are more funny and they sometimes had somethings that slipped the censors.

The racial stereotypes do not really bother me much. To me, these stereotypes are a sign of the times. During that era, that is how people saw each other perhaps.
