Schiff is one of the elite, with a tone to rival Rostropovich and an unmatched sense of rhythm. It is truly unjust that he lacks the popularity of many lesser artists (like Yo-Yo Ma).

You can always count on Schiff having razor-sharp articulation. I love that about him. This performance is especially expressive. I'm having renewed appreciation for him, after hearing his rather gruff treatment of Shosty Cello concerti.

I agree, unlike the overrated Yo-Yo Ma, he has incredible rhythm and tempo. Yo-Yo Ma, for bach especially, plays at a romantic, and liberal tempo. Also compared to Jian Wang, he doesn't have that special beat to his musics.

His Shostakovich first is indeed quite good, but I admit that his cadenza disappointed me; it seems quite expressionless, in comparison to his other wonderful solo performances (like this one). I absolutely loved his rendition of the second concerto, however.
