If you're going for a Sco-ish tone, yeah, but for the majority of Jazz playing you definitely want the neck pickup

I use the Thomastic George Benson pure nickel flat wound 12's. About $20.00 + per set but the tone is worth it. A bit darker tone than most strings and they seem to last much longer. Made in Austria

Learn intervals and major modes, and a bit on Augmented and Diminished, for jazz they use a lot of 7th's. Hope this helps Major- 1-3M-P5 Minor- 1-m3-P5 augmented- 1-3M-#5 diminished-1-m3-b5 (that should be about right) the 3rd determines major or minor, the fifth determines if its natural, augmented or diminished. and the first is your root.
