Back in the 80's there were many personal computer platforms in the fledgling market. Once IBM validated the personal computer market, they dominated the market because you could not go wrong with IBM. So all of the others went away.

What wonderful memories. I cut my teeth programming on a 64. They came out in 1982 and I used it thoroughly clear into 1986. 1992 my first PC. The Commodore 64, like a '57 Chevy, will always be a classic. They even have it in the Smithsonian in Washington D.C.

I still have my commodore64, and many games on flobbys. I still have a working 1541 disk drive and C=64 monitor, and Printer. Just a year ago I put it all back together and run a diskdrive test disc, that checks the disk drive for errors. It was so alsome. Im on a Dell 8200 now.

I loved my ol C64. I had one from 1982 to about 1992 when it died on me. got me thorough high school and part of college. I had a $5 word processor that was good for papers and all that. Add a Enhancer 2000 floppy drive and a Okidata 120 printer and you got a good setup.

Yeah, a lot of these games were also available on the Apple IIe (which I had). I love all this retro stuff, brings back memories of youth, the Bruce Lee game - I think it was Enter the dragon, it had a neat bug in it where you could skip half the game by jumping into a doorway.

The only short ... ( 2 months ago by Membrane556)
The only short comings the C64 had were a painfully slow disk drive and you had to go with a third party adapter to get 80 columns though the C128 fixed that last issue. It's graphics and sound were way ahead of anything you could buy for less then 2x the price. Tandy didn't catch up until the COCO3 and Apple until the IIgs and by then the Amiga was coming out IBM took until EGA/VGA and 386s but those used to cost more then the much more powerful Amiga.
Expensive? Apple ... ( 2 months ago by Membrane556)
Expensive? Apple IIs cost over twice that and IBMs were $2,000. Also that was the introductory price 2 years later they were selling for under $300 and drove TI out of the home computer business. Sure there was the ZX81/TS1000 which could be had for $99 but that was a a toy. Only reason commodore didn't survive wasn't due to poor sales but more so due to bad management they pursued dead end projects like the Plus 4 and CDTV wasting millions.
I will agree to the ... ( 2 months ago by fullflavormenthol)
I will agree to the point of bad management, not so much on the CDTV. They were already dead they just didn't know it yet by the time CDTV came out. Hell they were selling C=64s when the company went bankrupt in 94'. It was a good little computer that stood the test of time throughout the 80's. Between the C=64 and the high selling Amiga platform...I lay the blame on management that basically robbed the company of its funds.
