Do you mean the effect at the very beginning or the pinch harmonics? Throughout the song Zakk plays beautiful pinch harmonics, and he also does the cool steel effect. It's probably a bunch of effects mixed together like delay, reverb, and a phaser over some natural harmonics.

Zakk has perfected pinch harmonics off the pick. It's a heavy brew of low G tuning and JCM 10 cabinets with reverb and Master volume on max, plus a Boss distortion pedal. Add to the mix a Gibson Les Paul with 9 Volt EMG dual coil active Humbucker pickups in Rhythm and treble position.

You don't have to play fiddly diddly technical stuff for it to be good. This riff is so easy yet effective. Luckily Zakk can play everything; banjo lues rock metal chicken pickin ;acoustic;listen to farm fiddlin to see what he can do.
