| if fischer would have stayed active 72-75, he would have wiped the floor with karpov. Not too many people would dispute this. Of course, with fischer not playing for 3 years, just coming to a championship match would have been difficult for him. I think the optimum match would have been in 1978 or so. Fischer still would have won. The great question would be a match in 1985, Fischer vs Kasparov. That would have been like Frazier-Ali, 1971! |

| Greatest player ever? Yes. Man? gosh, let's admit it, he was a nut job,and not a very nice person. He sponged off people. Read the column in New in Chess. The best we can say is, he was mentally ill, severly.... But I choose to remember him for his chess, and yes, he was better than Kasparov and all others. he won 20 games in a row against grandmasters. Nobody before him did that, and nobody after him did that. His play was accurate, crisp, creative. |

| FIDE screwed the matchup between Fischer and Karpov. Fischer had 3 specific conditions which were absolutely fair and made complete sense if you understand why he had made them. I'm not gonna go into detail about those conditions cause it takes too long to explain. Anyways FIDE fucked it up and Karpov never got to play Fischer. As for Kasparov, he is a liar through his teeth and cheated to get his title. Again look it up and you'll find out. |

| kellogg, Lasker was great for his time, but after studying his games, the beauty of Lasker was that he was the first to come off with the combinations that are very well known today. Of course, with all the technology and knowledge of chess today, there's no doubt Lasker would have been able to compete with the best today. |
