This is the second part of three of the fourth movement of Beethoven's Symphony #9 in D Minor. As a reminder, there are 5 choruses from 5 different areas of the world singing in unison here. They come from Berlin (
ベルリン), New York (ニューヨーク), Sydney (シドニー), Beijing (北京) and Cape Point (Cape Town) (ケープタウン). Seiji Ozawa (小澤 征爾) conducted the symphony to this piece at a prefectural hall at Nagano itself.

This to my mind was the greatest opening or closing ceremony in any Olympic Games ever. They actually represented a location of each of the Olympic rings, and actually performed it at the location itself!
The locations were from memory ASIA (People's Palace), EUROPE (The Kremlin) AMERICA (UN Building), OCEANIA (Sydney Opera House) and AFRICA (Beach location in South Africa). This made it truly international, and not just Japanese. Great idea!
