I stand by my remarks. I have lived it so I know. I had a fantastic girl that loved me dearly. She used to come and see me every couple of days and always had to bring an overnight bag with clothes to wear for the next day. Hence the song title Bag Lady. She always had to catch the last bus when coming because she had to finish work, relax, eat and all that stuff(shave her legs), and then get to my place across town. That explains Erykah's reference to missing the bus. What women do for love.

i cannot believe some people have taken this song so literally...bag lady=EMOTIONAL baggage being carried into the next relationship. damn, it's a metaphor, that's what makes the song so tight. some of these comments have me laughing my ass off

Okay here's the deal...Badu is not talking about literally about baggage. She's talking about sisters who don't know how to let go after being hurt from a relationship. Badu is speaking figurative, not literally. You need to listen to the part in the song when she says: "girl I know sometimes its hard and we can't let." Stand by your remarks but know that you missed the entire point of the song.

You missed it too. Badu isn't speaking about commercialism. She's just identifying the different baggage some sisters carry from and into other relationships. Towards the end of the song, listen when she sings in btw the bags, "betcha love can it better." She's telling us regardless of the baggage you carry to let it go and that finding love for yourself and moving on with love and life will make it better.
