The funny thing is that Barry Goldwater, who I would give a lot more credit to "starting" the conservative movement than Bill Buckley simply for starting a magazine, has a lot more in common with these interventionists and many of the neocons on the New Right today. Sure, Goldwater at one time did support the Vietnam War and was an anticommunist hawk, but later on he turned against the war and saw how futile it was.
Goldwater was a true conservative but didn't let his brain fall out.

His book "The Conscience of a Conservative" is very enlightening. I still would agree with 75% of it, even though I'm much more liberal today than I was back then. Goldwater was one of the few ACTUAL "mavericks" in the GOP. I'm sure he hated the Reagan Administration just as much as I do, esp. when it comes to deficits and spending. He also hated the Religious Right and their influence on the party.
Goldwater was a libertarian much like Paul, and that's a good thing, not a bad thing.

I mean, he was a real conservative. He admitted that religion has no place in gov't, the government should not be the world policeman, we must get spending under control, gayness in the military isn't that big a threat, and unions are actually a good thing.
Too many in the New Right have fucked up the movement he started and gone WAY too far in one direction.

I'm sick of all the Reagan buttkissing. Did you see Mitt Romney at one of those last debates with the 4 remaining candidates?? He was like "Ronald Reagan this... Ronald Reagan said that... blah blah blah... in the house that Ronald Reagan built." Gimme a break! Forget that romney was probably a flip-flopper for a second. All that asskissing is just pitiful. Doesn't he have any pride in himself?? Even Ron Paul didn't mention the name of Reagan nearly that often.

Reagan-worshipping Republicans need to stop this crap and move on. Get onto the future already. And if any of the GOP candidates were gonna be endorsed by Ronald Reagan, it would have to be only Ron Paul. The others are just phonies.
Reagan was anything BUT a neocon. He was a realist, at best. But neocons, esp. those in The Weekly Standard (that pitiful excuse for a publication), write articles like "towards a neo-reaganite foreign policy" claiming he's "one of us."

Just an idea, why can't we (the people) all raise donation for a statue of Dr. Ron Paul holding the Constitution facing the Capitol Building? The statue would symbolize the important of the Constitution and to remind all of our current & future representatives that they should not forget to serve and protect the Constitution of this Great Nation.
