Googling "Newton ... ( 5 days ago by p101James)
Googling "Newton and Astrology" is a different page than "Astrology and Newton".
I just let the reader draw their own conclusion, despite whatever else the article may say about the scource or the validity of the scource.
Inconculsive is still inconclusive- but if no 'published' scource can be found for any quote made by Newton or Einstein, I too would stop quoting them as having said something that cannot be found in any scource. But I still believe scources can be removed or altered as well.

There is only one quote actually attributed to Einstein and it shows he had negative thoughts about it. You can check this quote yourself if you bother to get the book Einstein said on astrology: "The reader should note [Kepler's] remarks on astrology. They show that the inner enemy, conquered and rendered innocuous, was not yet completely dead." In his introduction to Carola Baumgardt's Johannes Kepler: Life and Letters, New York, Philosophical Library, 1951. End of debate

LOLjames: your quote: "But I still believe scources [sic]can be removed or altered as well." So somebody goes to all the original books and news articles and changes them using typing correction fluid? Never use the internet as a source because it is mostly bullshit when it comes to superstitious stuff. Anyone can post crap, and they do.
I found a bit more ... ( 4 days ago by squee27)
I found a bit more on Einstein and astrology. Einstein gave a short talk the extremely brief summary of which I found in the Einstein archives but no actual text. "Dated 08/10/1938 Author Einstein, Albert ASSESSES OSKAR ADLER AS ASTROLOGIST/ WARNS OF NEGATIVE INFLUENCE OF ASTROLOGY ON EUROPEAN POLITICS/ SUGGESTS INVITING ADLER TO PHILOSOPHY SYMPOSIUM IN USA" The all caps are annoying but that is the way they posted it. Once again, doesn't sound like he like astrology to me.
And it doesn't ... ( 4 days ago by squee27)
And it doesn't matter anyway since p101James will never realize that even if Einstein adored astrology it would still be just as wrong. It doesn't matter how many nor what kind of supporters an idea has it matters if it can pass a test. "...but Galileo liked astrology!" It's like talking to a wall.
How many times do ... ( 3 days ago by FantasmaBAnco)
How many times do you have to be told, James? You have to give the author of the article, or the administrator of the site, or the URL (which can be difficult on YouTube, but not impossible). The first *page* shows 10 of 1,230,000 for "Newton and Astrology". Which article do you mean? The first? The second? You have to be more specific if you want people to investigate your claims.
I could glance at ... ( 3 days ago by p101James)
I could glance at all 1,230,000 articles on that page in 5 seconds and still clearly see which article was about Newton's declaration that says, "Because Sir Halley, I have studied it."
First one about astrology.
And a second article about religion having the same basic return, "Because Sir, I have studied it and you have not." Or vice-versa.

p101James' Question about who Albert Eistein called "an incomparable man."
The Answer is: A: Johannes Kepler.

And so- I could have said the same thing. That doesn't mean I don't believe in astrology.
But it sounds like Einstein wants him to come to the U.S., to invite him to an American philosophical symposium instead of wasting his efforts in Europe.
And?

zzQwerty-
I said removed or altered. Mainly removed. But any book can be removed, only to have the reprint (if any) altered. Otherwise it's just removed.
In the U.S., any book that has been officially removed from new bookstores by government order, like "Blood Money, & Power", by Barr MacClelland 2003, can still be bought and sold as used books.
zzQwerty- get over here so I can unscrew your head and use it for a Jack o'lantern. But keep the pumpkin seeds.

Actually- There is only one page, and 5 articles, and 1 addendum at the bottom of the page referring to the second erroneously printed article
Google: Newtom and Astrology. The astrological referrence to Halley and Newton is found in the first article- third paragraph.

lol @ "I could glance at all 1,230,000 articles on that page in 5"... yeah, right.
You are either being deliberately obtuse, or you have no idea how to reference your sources. You are talking about van Gent's article, aren't you? The one entitled "Isaac Newton and Astrology: Witness for the Defence or for the Prosecution?".
Here is the quote ... ( 1 day ago by FantasmaBAnco)
Here is the quote you keep on insisting proves your case: "However, in the case of Newton, the astrological literature presents a different view and even claims that Newton was in secret an ardent student of astrology. As evidence the following anecdote is often quoted: when the astronomer Edmond Halley (1656-1742), of comet fame, once spoke depreciatively on the subject of astrology, Newton is said to have berated him with the remark: Sir Halley, I have studied the matter, you have not!"
When you read it * ... ( 1 day ago by FantasmaBAnco)
When you read it *in context* van Gent (the author) is using it as an example of the bullshit spouted by astrologers to support their case that Newton was an astrologer. The addendum makes *no* difference...
We've all been over this numerous times, but I think it really all boils down to you being wilfully ignorant and obstinate. You don't want to know the truth, because you would have to admit that you believe in a big crock of shit.
Can't we all just ... ( 1 day ago by camij79)
Can't we all just get over science and astrology. They have just as much in common as psychology and science and sociology and science and art and everything that is not science - being human - all we amount to is a genetic neurological lottery. The winner gets to live longer.

You don't seem to have a basic understanding of the differences between a tekne and a science, camij79. You cannot expect a "hard science" like physics to have the same research and epistemological focus as a "social science" like history or sociology.

Common Sagan... ... ( 3 hours ago by delerium2k)
Common Sagan... Boiling a tradition as ancient as astrology - the parent study to his greatest passion - down to daily horoscopes in the newspaper? He seems to make the assumption here that we know a lot about the universe... when really knowledge is an infinitely continuous pursuit. Sagan's still a personal hero though :o

FantasmaBAnco-
I appreciate your posted referrence; and I should add- I believe every word of it because Newton later said practically the same thing at a college symposium to a student who asked, "why does someone like you, believe in astrology (to that effect if not word for word). Newton's answer was, "Because sir, I have studied it, and you have not."
No one here is going to convince me otherwise. It was broadcast over the radio in a program about the complexity of Sir Isaac Newton.

FantasmaBAnco-
If I Google "Newton and Astrology", what more is there than "one" page with about 5 or 6 comments. Footnotes? I do not get what you're talking about past that page unless you really are not joking. If so- I'm not lolling.
