| 85 per cent an abosolute true story, saw it at the cinema in '73, when i was a young kid,and its still in mt Top 10 List and will be forever...shot in Spain and Hawaii,the scenery is both gorgeous and painfully lonely in this epic,under rated peice of genious. The shot of the real Devil's Island are shown as the credits role at the end.They still terrify me to this very day. It is supposed to be one of 'the'modt haunted places on Earth. |

| The film is nothing like the book. The book is 100 times better. Papillon is a fantastic and wonderful read. It is my favourite book. Sadly the Papillon story is not true. Read "Hell on Trial" by Rene Belbenoit. Papillon is based on Rene Belbenoit's book. So much of Papillon was plagiarized from Belbenoit it is laughable people believe Papillon is a true story. Remember the story about Papillon saving the governors daughter from drowning? Belbenoit wrote about that in 1938, 30 years before. |

| the book is awesome much better than the film.if you like prison stuff i would reccommend marching powder,damage done and catch me if you can which is also a lot better than the film.they miss too much out in the films |
