I don't know what ajopdx meant (I doubt he did either). "Coltrane Changes" usually refers to a chord progression characteristic of Coltrane, typically with key centers separated by major thirds. He used it on Giant Steps, but also on Countdown and Central Park West.

But I was just wondering if you would be able to tell me if you know the specifics of all the instruments herbie uses in this song? and the shaker at the beginning, is that similar to an african shakere? would love if you could help, its for a project on herbie!

Hey, apparently Herbie uses an Arp Odyssey for the bassline. I think his right hand is a Hohner clavinet, no idea what model (though I think the 'D6' is the most famous one?). And yeah, I think it is a shakere at the start, though you never see the handle side of it.

Great Funk! I think Hancock was using an ARP Odyssey and Hohner Clavinet as well as a Fender Rhodes. He also had a Theremin at the almost end of this tune which isn't showing in this video. The Shekere might be a Cameroon beaded gourd rattle called Cabaca. Caribbean have similar instrument as well as Latin America.
