Head Tracking for Desktop VR Displays using the WiiRemote

Using the infrared camera in the Wii remote and a head mounted sensor bar (two IR LEDs), you can accurately track the location of your head and render view dependent images on the screen. This effectively transforms your display into a portal to a virtual environment. The display properly reacts to head and body movement as if it were a real window creating a realistic illusion of depth and space. By Johnny Chung Lee, Carnegie Mellon University. | WOW, I just found these videos and am amazed by what you've done. I wouldn't totally rule out the idea of having two people use the same display at once though. I remember seeing a company (I believe Samsung) develop a LCD that displayed two different pictures at different angles. Basically just like a toy hologram you'd find in a box of cereal or cracker jacks. Only issue with game systems is having the system process two displays. Good work, I'll definitely be looking out for future videos! |
