Storm in the Drake Passage

Uploaded by: xeniacolours
Video Description:
This video was taken on board a Russian vessel crossing the Drake Passage between Ushuaia (Argentina) and the Antarctic Peninsula. The Drake Passage is known as the roughest sea on earth with severe storms almost at any times and extremely huge waves. We were hit by a storm sailing north that lasted two days with 14m waves.

The Drake Passage ... ( 3 weeks ago by peakman2006)
The Drake Passage IS the most consistently stormy water on earth, and therefore the sea conditions shown in this video are not particularly unique...Heavy? yes. Extraordinary? Not a chance. If this is as rough as it got, this crew is lucky.

im terrified of seas, I saw the documentary SOLO lost at sea on national geographic it was on Andrew Mcauley, and he crossed the tasman sea but fell short 54 kilometers from completing a 1000 mile paddle in a kayak. the most unique part about it was he was in the middle of the sea in the midst of a real powerful storm which lasted 48hrs. Imagine that, in a kayak, in stormy weather, 2days and nights, i admire that man, A CHAMPION for real.

Drakes pass is so dangerous...almost certain death to the old wooden ships. Only the old shipping lane that the Titanic used is more dangerous (cause of iceburgs).

Serious question- ... ( 3 days ago by McCainTheTurdburglar)
Serious question- how do people keep from constantly throwing up and getting sick in this kind of weather. Two days of this- I would have thrown up everything on my stomach and then some. These waters are absolutely brutal. So what's the trick to keeping food down?

Either they have strong stomachs or they're used to it. Things like this don't tend to make my stomach upset. Just depends on the person I suppose.
i hate to say much ... ( 16 hours ago by monkeyseawater)
i hate to say much but i was in the navy and passed Tiera Del Fuego ( sp-sorry ) and saw gale 15 force winds with seas higher than a 10 story building-this video ( i did enjoy it ) seems mild to what i saw/experienced, in fcat i did also go through Hurricane Fredrick in Sept of '79 on the USS Lexington-
while my wife and little girl ( now 29, and just went through Ike ) huddled ashore w/a neighbor family...the drake passage can change from calm to a force 15 gale in just a few hours-!
